Thanks to our exchange during the Partner Meeting, one aspect is very clear now: The way, Migrant care workers are integrated into the Health Care Sector, is depending not only on the social-economic situation of each country. It depents moreover on the cultural perspective on who should care of elderly people. In the southern EU countries, this care remains mainly responsability of the family whereas in Nothern EU countries, elderly care is part of the responsability of the state. This is why in the South, the Health Care sythems “leaves” it to the family to “manage” the care for their parents. But as most families are full time working nowadays, they hire “cheap” migrant care workers, mostly without contracts.
