Started cycling in Hopewell Junction and did the Dutchess trail, then the Walkway Over the Hudson, and the Hudson Valley trail out and back for 36 miles. We started in Hopewell Junction and ended at a park right outside of Brewster. Will explore the other half next week starting in Brewster. Hope to go back in the fall for autumn colors. Im not sure if they are bike messengers or just has beens trying to live out their dreams of being in the Tour De France, but their speed and shrill shouts of Left, Left, Left! piercing the crisp fall air can really ruin what is otherwise a beautiful and relaxing family outing. The trail travels from Hopewell Junction to Brewster and is considered to be easy to moderate with few hills. Trail also passes the somewhat harrowing sight of Greenhaven prison briefly and also an area for NYPD canine training with big fences. The trail is also narrow in spots making it uncomfortably close for bikes traveling in opposing directions. I highly recommend it for novices and experts alike. It's well paved, shaded most of the way, and there are only slight changes in elevation, so though it's a long ride it's doable by most. Miles of secluded, smooth, paved trail. where trail users are greated with a restored board and baten station that is the cat's meow! There were a few scenic areas but I was expecting more.
